There are electric cruiser bikes, cargo bikes, mountain bikes, and fat tire bikes for riding on sand or snow. Schwinn has been a large name within the bike industry for over a decade. The Schwinn was like driving a Hummer. The weight of the battery is much lower than with the Schwinn, which allows the rider to maneuver easily and confidently at all times. It's a bit jarring the first time or two, but that's par for the course, and you'll warm up to it quickly. We're not saying it's without effort, but it's a greatly reduced effort. Uphill, however, we definitely expended a significantly higher amount of energy with our toothpick-like legs. We didn't clock our speeds, but the bike can supposedly top about 15 miles per hour on flat ground with the pedal-assist on, and that sounds about right to us. The battery locks in under the frame of the bike, and the front wheel/fender tended to get in the way when removing or reinstalling the battery. One feature I liked was a secondary tab you need to retract to remove the battery. That way, when you unlock the battery it doesn't just fall out. Some thought was put into the idea there and I appreciated it. It has no gears and no chain, which means less maintenance. When you are done, fold it up and slip it into the back of your car — no bike rack required. And oh, by the way, it is $400 less than the Schwinn Mendocino.
